Senior Sales Representative

Essential functions (job duties):
JOB PURPOSE
Plan, develop and execute the sale of underwriting for the University's public radio station, WDET. Assess, identify and contact businesses, promoters and organizations to sell on-air underwriting and assist with department marketing efforts.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Research and screen prospective clients to ensure financial boundaries and compatibility with the University and its mission. Establish and maintain effective relationships with new and existing customers in order to increase retention and revenue base in an ever-changing and competitive market. Monitor customer satisfaction; identify new funding opportunities from existing customers and collect payments.
Assist department in developing marketing techniques and methods that reflect current trends. Examine and review products to plan and develop promotional strategies; assist in the development of promotional activities which include advertising, direct mail, exhibit and display presentations, public relations and related activities.
Secure underwriting for special events; contact businesses, corporations and organizations to sell the advantages of public radio underwriting and cultivate support; assess and balance customer needs with station goals; attend special events and prepare promotional materials as needed. Use membership in professional organizations to publicize University products and services. Review and estimate revenues; monitor delinquent accounts; prepare, authorize and monitor contract compliance and address problems as required.
Write on-air underwriting credits which recognize organizations and promote events which support WDET. Monitor and maintain compliance with FCC rules and regulations and department guidelines for public radio underwriting.
Write contracts, letters and proposals; maintain customer files and correspondence; prepare reports concerning activities. Interface with other departments in the production of on-air credits, coordinating on-air spots and providing input on promotional events, concerts and clients interests.
Perform related work as assigned.

Qualifications:
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
Bachelor's degree
Additional Education Information: Graduation from an accredited college or university in marketing, public relations, business administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
Experience:
Experienced
Additional Experience Information: Minimum 5 years corporate sales, business development experience required.
Reasonable experience in commercial marketing sales or other sales experience.
Active memberships/affiliations to business/community organizations.
Some experience in the arts, music and cultural communities.
Computer literacy preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
COMMUNICATIONS SKILLS: Ability to communicate clearly, concisely and professionally both orally and in writing. Strong interpersonal skills are a must.
BUSINESS ACUMEN: reasonable knowledge of marketing, sales and advertising.
LEARNING AGILITY: Independent and innovative self-starter who displays an ability to learn quickly and easily adapts to changing situations. Ability to work independently and meet established deadlines and goals.
ANALYTICAL SKILLS: Strong analytical skills and the ability to creatively modify annual plans in response to shifting realities.
