Uncommon Paws is a family owned and operated pet boutique in the Old Port, Portland, Maine. We make all our collars, leashes, harnesses, bandanas, and dog beds in our own studio, right here in Portland. We are in our 13th year of providing high quality pet products to our customers and our 6th year in our retail store.

Our emphasis is on quality and outstanding customer service with a friendly, knowledgeable staff and great, Uncommon products that will be remembered and cherished for a lifetime.

Responsibilities:

- You must feel comfortable approaching customers. Each customer is greeted and made to feel welcome in our store just like welcoming family into your home.

- Helping pet parents find the very best solutions and fashionable selections to pamper their pets.

- Demonstrate a high level of interest in the welfare, health, and proper handling of all animals.

- Candidates must possess excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.

- You must possess the initiative to learn about our products. and be a self starter.

- A love of pets and experience with dogs and cats is a must and occasional clean-up of a mess does happen in the store.

- As a team member you will be expected to open and close the store, keep the store clean and neat, mop and vacuum the floor, dust, re-stock, and straighten products.

- Help customers in their product selection and convey your product knowledge.

- You’ll be expected to use an iPad-based register, receive merchandise, and process inventory.

- You must be self-directed, doing tasks that need to be done during slow times and multi-tasking and prioritizing when it’s busy.

- Pay is competitive and depends on experience.Minimum Qualifications:

- High School graduate or equivalent preferred.

- Must be able to work a flexible work schedule including some weekends, and holidays.

- Ability to manage time and prioritize

- Ability to take initiative to complete tasks and solve problems

- Good communication and organizational skills

- Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Other Requirements:

- Minimum 12 months of experience in face to face retail sales and customer service.

- Must be able to stand for 6-8 hours.

- Previous experience in retail specific to pets or apparel, preferred.

- Excellent customer service skills

- We are looking for at least 1 part time staff members 24 hours minimum and one Full time position 32-40 hours. The part time position could also be temporary through December. Retirees that have the ability to stand on their feet for 6-8 hours are encouraged to apply. This job demands more hours than a High School student is available or allowed to work. Sorry. Rotating weekends and holiday availability a must.
