Job Profile
The Senior Media Relations Coverage Officer for Sales & Trading will play a critical role in communicating the strategy of Morgan Stanley's Institutional Equites and Fixed Income Sales & Trading businesses to the media. The executive will work closely with senior management to ensure the press understand the performance and goals of both divisions. This executive should strive to become the trusted communications advisor to the leaders of these businesses. The executive will also provide communications advice on all legal and regulatory matters affecting the businesses and be a key member on several industry-wide and new business committees.
The executive will also be required to forge strong working relationships with all the journalists covering these divisions to ensure a constructive dialogue and as fair and balanced coverage as possible.
In addition, this role will manage the media relations coverage officer for Global Research, providing management oversight and strategic advice, as well as helping to devise and execute the overall communications plan for this division.

Primary Responsibilities
- Develop communication strategy, planning, and delivery for the Institutional Equities and Fixed Income Divisions
- Manage the media relations coverage officer for Global Research
- Be a strategic advisor and communications expert to the senior management of Institutional Equities and Fixed Income.
- Represent Morgan Stanley on several industry-wide communications committees.
- Represent Corporate Communications on several Sales and Trading-related committees within Morgan Stanley
- Leverage communications to innovate and problem-solve
- Cultivate internal relationships and partnerships at all levels of the organization
QUALIFICATIONS
This role requires the following capabilities and talents:
Skills required (essential)
- Ability to create an overall strategic communications vision for the Institutional Equities and Fixed Income divisions
- A proven track record driving successful communications campaigns from inception to delivery
- Strength in creating and maintaining deep relationships across the businesses and the Firm
- Ability to quickly absorb and process often complex and diverse financial information and then create clear and concise messaging for use with the media and, on occasion, clients, and employees
- Ability to become the trusted PR advisor to senior executives
- Ability to drive consensus and get buy-in from senior executives across the two divisions, and be accountable for decisions
- Exceptional ability to manage unleash the full potential of staff members, provide feedback, and opportunities for growth

Skills required (essential)
- Bachelor's degree in related field (Journalism, Communication, Marketing, Liberal Arts, Public Relations, Advertising, etc.) desired
- At least 15+ years of experience as a Media Relations professional specializing in the financial services sector.
- Proven experience creating and managing communications strategies and translating those strategies into actionable plans
- Proven track record of managing and/or supporting the creative process from start to finish
- Demonstrated track record of managing a team
- A known and skilled collaborator, who consistently looks to connect the dots
- Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to speak up and challenge convention respectfully with the goal of finding common ground and reasonable compromises
Expected base pay rates for the role will be between 160,000 and 250,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
