Job Summary
The Director of Sales is responsible for growing existing accounts and generating new business to ensure that property revenues meet or exceed budget, thereby maximizing profit and improving the hotels performance in the marketplace. The Director of Sales hires, trains and supervises Sales Managers, Catering Managers and/or Sales Coordinators in all sales-related activities, including direct sales efforts, follow-up and proper sales administration.
Essential Functions, Duties, Responsibilities to be performed with or without accommodation
Meets or exceeds set goals in room revenues, catering revenues, and market share
Operates the Sales Department within established sales expense budget.
Coordinates group, transient and catering bookings to maximize profits.
Initiates and follows up on leads.
Monitor production of all top accounts and evaluates trends within the market and ensures that the Sales Team is held accountable for those accounts within their respective territories/market segment
Coordinates all corporate negotiated sales and catering solicitations to maximize overall profits
Assists in the preparation of required reports in a timely manner
Prepares and submits daily End of Day reports
Conducts a professional, thorough site inspection of the hotel with clients, exhibiting key features and benefits of the property, and (as applicable) ensures that all Sales Managers conduct thorough site inspections
Develops strategies to increase share from competitors when the hotel revenue penetration goals are not being met
Meets and greets onsite contacts
Ensures that team members are, at all times, attentive, friendly, helpful and courteous to all guests, managers and other employees
Supervises, administers and ensures timely completion of all activities of the Sales Department (as applicable)
Develops a full working knowledge of the operations of the hotel, including Guest Services, Reservations and Food and Beverage
Performs other duties as requested by management
Attends all training/meetings as required by management
Attends trade shows and marketing events to promote the Hotel
Designs brochures, marketing material and trade show table
Skill, Experience, and Competency Requirements
At least 5 years of progressive hotel sales experience with at least 2 years as a Director of Sales, or Director of Group Sales, with proven success in leading efforts
Prior leadership over direct sales efforts producing at least 50% market mix of Total Revenues
College degree preferred
Strong financial knowledge required
Valid drivers license from the appropriate state
Drive for Results demonstrated through successful performance in prior sales positions
Action Orientation to work efficiently and effectively toward property revenue objectives
Time Management skills to meet commitments across multiple accounts and contacts
Negotiating skills to consistently obtain optimal revenue position for the hotel
Create group resumes, maintain group contracts on file, contact groups to understand their arrival and departure patterns, implement efficient practices so group check-in and check-out is seamless.
When groups are in-house, make sure private breakfast dining has been organized ahead of their arrival, make sure breakfast items have been served the morning of breakfast, and visit the private dining area to speak with the group and collect feedback.
Walk throughout breakfast area during breakfast hours to speak with guests, collect feedback, ask guests to leave positive reviews.
Physical and Mental Requirements
Long hours sometimes required.
Light work-exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and /or 10 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects
Must be able to convey information and ideas clearly, both oral and written.
Must be able to evaluate and select among alternative courses of action quickly and accurately.
Must be able to work well in stressful, high-pressure situations including the ability to handle guest complaints and disputes and resolve them to satisfactory results.
Must maintain composure and objectivity under pressure
Must be effective in handling problems in the workplace, including anticipating, preventing, identifying and solving problems as necessary.
Must have the ability to assimilate complex information, data, etc. from various sources and consider, adjust or modify to meet the constraints of the particular need.
Must be effective at listening to, understanding and clarifying concerns and issues raised by team members and guests.
Must be able to work with and understand financial information and data, and basic mathematical functions.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $67,963.20 - $90,000.00 per year
