THE JOB DESCRIPTION: The Solar Sales Engineer is a key member of the Business Development team and reports to the Business Development Manager. The position is the key point of contact for customers, developing deep customer relationships and managing strategic accounts. The Solar Sales Engineer is responsible for generating new leads and prospects, driving sales, landing new business opportunities, and expanding offerings with existing customers.
WHAT YOU DO: The duties and primary responsibilities below are intended to describe the general content and requirements of this job and are not intended to be an exhaustive statement of duties.
Cultivate new sales leads with the objective of establishing residential, commercial, and industrial business relationships and initiating new business reporting activities.
Lead informational presentations and meetings with homeowners, executives, and business owners to educate prospects on the benefits of renewable energy solutions.
Create preliminary project design after completion of site evaluation, assessment of utility usage, and learning prospects needs and/or desires.
Align and develop project estimates with opportunity potential and ROI objectives.
- Conduct a bid review meeting with BD Manager to finalize estimate, markup, and strategies.
Create project proposal detailing preliminary design and comprehensive financial analysis.
- Develop and manage the execution of the sales plan for each project.
Lead proposal presentations with homeowners, executives, and business owners
Follow up with prospects routinely to win pending opportunities.
- Maintain and enhance AESs relationships with existing clients by executing proactive, creative, and on-going contact initiatives.
- Collaborate with the operations team on project handoff for won opportunities and assist in the project onboarding process.
- Partner with shared services and construction teams for operational forecasting, to analyze and mitigate potential project risks and contingencies.
- Update Cosential (CRM) with prospect/lead/opportunity information to support budgetary and operational planning.
Recommend potential enhancements or improvements to processes, project, and/or policies.
- Research and understand industry trends and government regulations.
- Attend and engage in business development strategy meetings.
- Attended Project Kickoff Design meeting to review the development of preliminary plans and equipment selection, as required.
- Attend Project Kickoff meeting to review project construction plan and provide pertinent project information to the operations team.
- Attend Post-Bid Review meeting with Project Manager and/or Construction Foreman to communicate the approach and methods used in the estimate, as required.
- Close, activate and retain relationships with clients.
- Perform other responsibilities and duties as needed, including estimating & project management.
WHAT YOU BRING:
2+ years equivalent experience within construction industry; solar/renewables highly preferred
Associates or Bachelors degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or related field preferred
Proficiency in Helioscope and Energy Toolbase preferred.
A strong sense of ownership with a bias for action
- Demonstrated closing and negotiation skills, driving deals to closure.
- Ability to develop collaborative relationships and influence up/down/across organizational lines.
- Detail oriented with a commitment to improving productivity and quality of work.
- Discretion and independent judgment when analyzing industry trends/government regulations and providing related client guidance.
- Strong presentation/communication skills; Must have the ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and customers.
- Excellent analytical, technical, and problem solving/decision making skills; ability to make timely, effective, fact-based decisions.
- Ability to handle a fast-paced environment and responsiveness to short duration deadlines.

- Ability to efficiently organize work and manage time to meet deadlines.
