Applications Engineer- Multifunctional Horizontal Machining Center
The Application Engineer is responsible for tasks in support of sales and after sales activities for our multifunctional CNC machine, with a primary focus on turning or turning-milling operations. This position will provide on-site and remote technical support for direct salespeople, customers, and distributors. The Application Engineer is responsible for the selection of tools, process development, time studies, machine proposals, testing, installation, and machine acceptance tests.
This position is based in Elmira, NY and will support activities across North America.
The requirements for this position are as follows:
EDUCATION: Associates degree in Machine Tool Technology or Technical Certification Program. Will consider non-degreed applicants with relevant job experience.
EXPERIENCE: 5+ years of experience in CNC machining with a focus on turning and turn-mill applications with 5 axes. Experience with CAD/CAM software, SIEMENS, and FANUC controls. Strong organizational skills and excellent communication skills are required. Experience interacting with customers is preferred.
SPECIFIC TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE:
CNC programming (SIEMENS 840D)
SIEMENS control (SIEMENS S7)
FANUC control.
CAD/CAM software.
Knowledge in proper tooling selections based on machining requirements.
LOCATION: Elmira, NY.
REPORTS TO: Application Engineering Manager.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review customer requirements (blueprints, 3D models, manuals, specifications, or sample part) to determine proper machine configuration and process selection.
Select work holding, cutting tools, cutting speeds, accessories, and materials necessary to meet customer requirements.
Create and optimize CNC programs.
Optimize processes, procedures, and cycle times.
Perform machine demonstrations, time studies, feasibility studies and sample parts in support of sales including installation of machines.
Work with engineers, quality, software engineers and others to resolve machine problems in a team and a goal-oriented manner.
Conduct training classes in-house and offsite as needed.
Support tradeshows as needed.
Prepare and implement machine acceptance/run-offs validation when required by customers. Technical support for customers, sales, and distributors.
Represent Hardinge in a professional manner.
Travel required up to 60%.
