The primary function of this position is to generate advertising sales into all applicable Sound Publishing, Inc. publications to local businesses within a designated geographical or vertical territory. This includes display, digital, classified, special section, preprint, print-and-deliver, and any other advertising product or service available. This requires:
- Regular and consistent attendance
- Active participation in sales meetings
- A good command of the English language
- The ability to communicate effectively with clients and co-workers by telephone, in-person, and email.
- The ability to see written materials in order to assist clients and creative staff and to handle all required paperwork to ensure accurate sales ad data
- The ability to calculate and check reports using basic math to assist clients
- The ability to handle multi-faceted priorities in a deadline-oriented environment
- The ability to drive a vehicle to attend appointments with clients, deliver/pickup advertising materials, etc.
Basic Duties and Responsibilities
- Sell total Multi-Media solutions to new and existing advertisers
- Present circulation and demographic information on our newspapers, singularly or in combination as is applicable to the advertiser
- Recommend the best advertising plan based on the advertisers needs, goals and budget, and represent rates in a manner consistent with management authorized pricing
- Maintain Needs Assessment information on each active account on a regular basis & keep updated client files.
- Establish new accounts, obtain billing and credit information, and get commitments (contracts) based on the best ad program to meet the advertisers needs
- Maintain regular contact with all existing advertisers to insure continued advertising participation and to promote communication between advertiser and newspaper
- Alert management to changing market conditions and competitive efforts
- Schedule all advertising for new and existing accounts, while adhering to established deadlines
- Arrange for pickup of ad copy/materials; layout ads and turn in all necessary materials to composing/production by deadline; request proofs; follow all ads through to final production including checking that ads are the correct size, layout, color and contain the correct and complete copy and art; request tearsheets as necessary
- Achieve monthly revenue goals
- Effectively coordinate and/or assist with the publication of special sections and other projects as assigned
- Process ad material in a timely manner, with clear, complete layout and billing instructions
- Represent rates in a manner consistent with management-authorized pricing
- Make frequent use of spec ads and written proposals to develop incremental sales
- Provide customers with such services as assistance with ad design, correct ad scheduling and accurate billing
- Participate in company offered training
- Prepare reports and forecasts to managers specifications
- Establish and maintain knowledge of Sounds publications and capabilities
- Keep apprised of current competition and technologies
- Maintain professional and positive image in and out of the office
- Make effective use of business hours by maintaining effective work and time management practices
- Research billing questions and complete and process debit/credit memos as needed
- Other duties as assigned
General Knowledge/Skills
- Must possess excellent relationship/consultative selling skills, strong presentation skills
- Must be creative and detail-oriented, self-motivated, goal-driven and demonstrate initiative and persuasion
- Must possess budgeting and account analysis abilities as well as basic math skills
- Must possess strong customer service, organizational, and time-management skills; excellent phone, data entry, verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be team-oriented
- Must possess working knowledge of Excel & Word programs
- High school diploma or equivalent, college degree preferred
- Must possess at least one year of media sales experience or two or more years of retail or service-oriented sales experience
- Must possess a reliable vehicle, valid Drivers License, and proof of current vehicle insurance coverage

Work Schedule
Typically 40 hours per week, worked within the standard office hours of 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. It must be recognized that, due to the nature of this position, hours may vary in order to accomplish the required tasks and may require coming in early, staying late, or working weekends on occasion. It is critical that the person in this position be reliable.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $40,000.00 - $50,000.00 per year
