Position Summary:

To be successful as an Optician, you should have strong customer service, interpersonal, and communication skills. You should be able to recommend specialized eyewear such as for sports and occupational use, as well as informing on and recommending tints and anti-reflective coatings. This individual will operate with compassion, excellent customer service, and efficiently to ensure patients are receiving quality care.

Job Type: Full-time, On Site with the ability to travel to multiple locations in the area.

Reports to: Administrator

Responsibilities:

• Obtaining patient prescriptions from Optometrists and Ophthalmologists; interpreting optical prescriptions.
• Checking patients vision insurance coverage, eligibility and completing necessary prior authorizations. Filing electronic or paper vision insurance claims for materials.
• Assisting customers in selecting frames according to lifestyle. Coordinating frames with facial and eye measurements and optical prescription.
• Recommending lens coating such as antireflective, tint, and specific lens material.
• Preparing work orders for the Optical Technicians to use to manufacture the lenses.
• Ordering lenses from contracted optical labs. Checking lenses on delivery to ensure that they meet the required

ANSI specifications.

• Dispensing, adjusting, and fitting frames according to the prescriptions and customer's specifications, as well as to suit the customer's facial shape.
• Using specialized equipment, such as pliers, calipers, lensometers, and lens gauges.
• Educating customers on how to wear and maintain eyeglasses.
• Keeping inventory on frames to ensure product variety and customer satisfaction.
• Maintaining communication between sales reps and management.
• Performing administrative duties, such as managing prescriptions, customer records, insurance claims and verifying statements.
• Ensures that patients are properly educated regarding their vision prescription and available options.
• Maintains emphasis on profitable operations while satisfying patient needs.
• Maintains appropriate standards of quality, honesty, and patient service.
• Ensures that all optical dispensary-related objectives are met.
• Comply with HIPAA regulations.
• Ability to work at different locations as needed.

Qualifications & Skills:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Excellent customer service and teamwork ability.

Preferred Experience:

• ABO Certified, Office Word and Excel knowledge Preferred
• Two to five years experience working in optical shop.
• Working knowledge of inventory management, eyewear sales, patient insurance coverage and financial management.
• Effective supervisory skills.
• Wide-ranging knowledge applicable to eye care and current trends in eyewear.
• Extensive experience and understanding of all aspects related to operations of a modern optical dispensary.

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

• Work is performed in a medical office setting.
• Physical demands of position: must be able to sit for long periods of time, must have manual dexterity to work computer systems and keyboard.

Salary is Negotiable based on Experience.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $13.00 - $15.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
