Growth Opportunity: IHS is seeking a proven sales professional and exemplary communicator who loves a challenge and isnt afraid of deadline-driven collaboration. This Communications and Sales Specialist position is perfect for a successful salesperson who wants to develop their communications skills with long- and short-form content writing while selling advertising and event booths and sponsorships. Self-starters familiar with AP Style will excel in this fast-paced position. International Hearing Society (IHS), a professional membership association founded in 1951, based in Farmington Hills, Michigan, is seeking to fill a full-time dual-role position of Communications and Sales Specialist to sell event booths, sponsorships, and advertisements, in addition to lending communications support to IHS member publications. IHS represents thousands of hearing healthcare professionals worldwide, and communicates with them via a quarterly magazine, bimonthly e-newsletter, and annual report; and promotes member initiatives through our public relations campaign and manufacturer/distributor advertisements and sponsorships.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree in Communications, Business, English, or related field.
  • Sales experience with a proven record of meeting and exceeding sales goals.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills, with a desire to expand writing capabilities.
  • Exceptional Customer Service acumen and professional demeanor.
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
  • Proven track record in managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines and quotas.
  • Ability to learn to and effectively use technology solutions
  • Excellent proofreading skills. Knowledge of AP guidelines is preferable.
  • Attention to detail with writing, contractual details, spelling, and grammar.
  • Goal-driven individual with desire to learn about and promote hearing aid specialists.
  • Quick learner of feature and benefit concepts and able to convey them to prospects.
  • Ability/willingness to travel to annual conference.

Responsibilities:

Writing and Proofreading

  • Assist the Editorial, PR, & Sales Director in managing the daily operations of the Societys quarterly magazine, The Hearing Professional, bimonthly e-newsletter, annual report, press releases, and other Society publications and presentations.
  • Generate leads for potential articles and/or authors, develop relationships with volunteer writers, and manage direct communications with them.
  • Conduct interviews, research topics, and write articles; and identify photos and other appropriate images to be included in the layout of articles.
  • Edit and proofread all materials in each stage of production, from first draft to final publication.
  • Work with the Editorial, PR, & Sales Director to meet print and mail deadlines.
  • Work with magazine design vendor on layout, eventually becoming the liaison between the Editorial, PR, & Sales Director and design vendor.
  • Input stories and images into newsletter format currently using Informz/Higher Logic.
  • Write engaging sales emails to attract hearing aid distributors, manufacturers, and allied businesses to exhibit and advertise with our members.
  • Assist with invoicing and tracking sales and billing.
  • Identify PR opportunities for the Society and create supporting collateral.
  • Assist in finding and leveraging all partner-organization member benefits and promotional opportunities as they relate to the IHS brand and core value alignment.

Event and Advertising Sales

  • Sell exhibit space for association events and be the primary contact for exhibitors before, during, and after events.
  • Upsell additional promotional opportunities including sponsorship, advertising, silent auction, and tote bag inserts.
  • Sell advertising opportunities for publications, including magazine and e-newsletter, and other platforms that support the IHS mission and vision as they arise.
  • Engage with exhibitors, advertisers, and designer to secure artwork, videos, and collateral.
  • Assist in writing scripts, producing powerpoints for IHS Executive Director and Board of Governors as related to the IHS Convention & Expo.
  • Support team with data entry of invoices, exhibitor registrations, and excel updates on exhibitors and advertisers as needed.
  • Perform administrative tasks as assigned to support the department.
