JOB SUMMARY: The Alternative Funding Specialist, under the general direction of the VP of Network Strategy, works collaboratively with multiple internal and external stakeholders to identify, solicit, and attain funding for new and existing initiatives at CARTI from a variety of sources including state, federal, and private organizations. The team member identifies and pursues opportunities that are aligned with the interests of CARTIs mission and vision, works with multi-disciplinary teams to evaluate opportunities, and proactively applies for and develops any opportunities approved by leadership. The Alternative Funding Specialists balances out their wordsmith capabilities with their highly acute attention to detail throughout the application process, to ensure they are able to sell CARTIs vision and mission and attain funding from the appropriate source. The team member will also serve as the primary point of contact and knowledge expert for all external funding opportunities from their inception to their completion. This position requires excellent writing, story-telling, and sales (organizational vision) skills combined with an unwavering excellence in customer service and the ability to guarantee that all clients and stakeholders are highly satisfied in all aspects of the program.
SPECIFIC JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Include the following. Other duties or tasks may be requested or assigned by immediate supervisor, his/her designee or management.
- Finds and identifies funding opportunities that are in alignment with CARTI priorities and initiatives.
- Researches funding opportunities thoroughly to identify internal and external stakeholders, evaluate alignment with CARTI, and clearly determine qualification criteria.
- Researches and incorporates supplemental statistics, studies, and articles that can bolster support and need for funding opportunity, in alignment with funds requirements and objectives.
- Writes highly polished and persuasive proposals, grants, narratives, applications, and solicitation letters to various government and non-government organizations and individuals, in a fashion that clearly articulates CARTIs mission and vision and positions CARTI in the best possible position to attain funding.
- Clearly and cohesively communicates with multiple internal and external stakeholders in pursuit of funds. Maintains communication with all parties involved in an organized fashion, ensuring updates are attained frequently and in a timely fashion.
- Submits proposals to respective organization or agency for review and approval in a highly detail oriented fashion, ensuring that all administrative requirements are met during the submission process.
- Responds to internal and external queries on drafted and submitted proposals.
- Maintains positive relationships with fund providers and other stakeholders.
- Maintains primary responsibility for grant schedules and tracking grants and other funding source timelines and processes.
- Maintains records and submits reports related to opportunities.
- Serves as a liaison to all funding agencies and organizations
- Provides unwavering and exceptional customer service to all stakeholders remotely and in-person on a daily basis.
- Acts as the direct primary point of contact for all program inquiries in a highly professional and customer-service oriented fashion.
- Clearly communicates with Management on any issues of concern in a timely fashion.

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, LICENSURE, REGISTRATION:
- Required: Bachelors Degree; preferably in Healthcare, Business, Communications, Legal, or comparable.
EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS and ABILITIES:
- Minimum of three years professional writing experience grant writing, journalism, etc. and/or three years' experience with federal or state grant submission processes and systems. Grant writing with healthcare focus highly preferred.
- Experience which should demonstrate a proven track record of securing new funding opportunities; comprehensive knowledge of research, and the ability to distinguish and identify opportunities.
- A proven record of securing major grants with certifiable references;
- Knowledge of grant application process, scoring criteria and funding cycles;
- General knowledge of Medical Environment / Office.
- Knowledge of computer programs, spreadsheets and applications.
- Knowledge of legal and regulatory governmental provisions.
REASONING ABILITY:
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
- Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, or schedule form.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
- Must interact and communicate both verbally and in written form in an exemplary fashion.
- Must feel comfortable in highly social environments, serves as representative of the organization during funding solicitation process.
- Motivated self-starter with the ability to work collaboratively and independently with purpose and accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
- Must interact and exchange information regarding patients with physicians and other departmental personnel, and outside agencies on a frequent basis while respecting the confidentiality of patient information.
