Position Overview:
The Director of Hotel Sales and Convention Services is responsible for setting and meeting all sales-related goals for hotel and catering revenues. The Director is also responsible for overseeing the sales process from sales lead generation through to event execution, to ensure the highest quality of room set, dcor and service are achieved. The Director of Hotel Sales and Convention Services has direct oversight for the sales and banquet events team. This position will work closely with the hotels preferred accounts and group reservations to ensure growth and success. The Director manages the sales effort and supports the VP of Resort Operations on operational issues relating to convention services. All duties are to be performed within the guidelines of the Mount Airy Casino Resort policies and procedures, Internal Control standards and Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board regulations.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maximizes the Sales process to achieve occupancy, Catering revenue and the average daily rate of the hotel.
- Assists the VP in the development and implementation of annual hotel sales and plan.
- Issues guest complimentaries in accordance with the approved comp matrix
- Responsible for developing brand presence in local market and community.
- Creates awareness of Casino hotel in civic, social and the business community events.
- Ensures compliance with brand standards and marketing strategies.
- Responsible for increasing corporate client base through consistent solicitations while establishing trust and rapport with clients to generate and boost revenues for the hotel.
- Promotes positive guest, employee and public relations at all times.
- In charge of all sales activities, convention services processes and personnel involved in Hotel & Catering Sales for the Company.
- Provides leadership to the day-to-day operations of the sales and convention services departments, while maintaining focus on the companys strategic goals.
- Establishes performance goals for the sales department and monitors performance on a continual basis.
- Sets service expectations for the Banquets department and monitors for success.
- Develops and implements an effective strategic hotel sales plan.
- Directs department(s) to achieve objectives established in the Companys Strategic Plan.
- Knowledge of group corporate, association, social and incentive markets.
- Works closely with Revenue Manager to maximize hotel rev-par.
- Maximizes catering sales via group and social markets.
- Establishes relationships with third party vendors such as Helms Briscoe, C-vent, American Express, and the PMVB.
- Seeks out and targets new customers and new sales opportunities, initiates action plan to approach and secure new business for the Company.
- Monitors and analyzes sales and market trends.
- Responsible for managing and controlling the sales budget.
- Effectively executes and manages every element of the sales process of each sales member and builds a top-notch direct sales team.
- Attracts, retains, trains, and motivates a diverse sales force and Convention Services team.
- Responsible for prospecting and growing of the account list, handles incoming leads and closes sales.
- Collaborates closely with the Purchasing and Marketing teams on developing new products and services for our clients.
- Standard measurements will focus on actual sales, profitability, and growth percentage within the business unit. In addition, developing and maintaining a strong pipeline of new customers will be a key indicator of future success expectations.
- Takes complete ownership of the convention services space and events, to include, room quality, dcor, equipment and cleanliness are held to the highest standards.
- Ensures that the equipment, linens and FF&E is of the highest state of repair and in keeping with our four diamond standards.
- The Director will preside over the Weekly BEO and Resume meeting to disseminate all the needed group information to the culinary and hotel teams to achieve successful group stays.
- The director ensures that all event sets are aesthetically pleasing and personally oversees the presentation of the convention setup for an upcoming event to ensure the same.
- Utilizes existing account management processes and reporting systems within the STS sales system.
- Develops, implements and enforces departmental policies, procedures and standards, including revenue controls where appropriate. Sets departmental goals, objectives and guidelines.
- Coordinates efforts and communicates information with all related departments to ensure effective guest service and internal service. Fosters good working relationships with internal areas.
- Maintains a clean, safe, hazard and harassment free work environment.
- Assists in other projects and handles job tasks as deemed appropriate. Participates in task forces as required.
- Sets and attends meetings as necessary to include operational, yield and departmental meetings.
- Meets attendance guidelines and adheres to regulatory, departmental and company policies.
Essential Requirements:
- Must be able to perform each of the essential functions and responsibilities satisfactorily.
- Must be a minimum 18 years of age or older upon employment.
- Bachelors Degree preferred; Two to three years of Hotel Sales experience required in a Director of Sales role managing a three to five million Sales revenue budget.
- Documented experience in leading both the Sales and Convention Services roles.
- Must have a demonstrated track record of sales and catering revenue growth.
- Must be able to actively solicit, sell and book business and must be able to think outside the box.
- Proficient computer/PC skills, including Microsoft Office.
- Possesses excellent customer service, organizational, written/verbal communication & multi-tasking skills.
- Strong interpersonal, motivational and leadership qualities required; must be an energetic and creative sales pro.
- Flexible to work any scheduled shifts and/or days, including weekends and holidays.
- Must be a team player who can energize, inspire and lead.
- Must be able to be approved for and maintain a valid Pennsylvania Gaming License, as required.
