School Description:
Eugenio Mara de Hostos Charter School is a K-12 school, serving over 900 students. EMHCS offers a dual language program in grades K-2 and a Spanish Language Arts program for grades 3-12. Our school is fortunate to have staff, students and parents working together to create partnerships for learning. It is the mission of the Eugenio Mara de Hostos Charter School to create a safe and nurturing community of learners where students earn the Seal of Biliteracy (English and Spanish), learn to advocate for social justice and are prepared to enjoy and access what the world has to offer.
Summary of Position:
The Home School Community Liaison plays a critical role in improving parent engagement. Home School
Community Liaison will work with Directors, Principals, Assistant Principals, Teachers and Parents to build parent participation and engagement.
Under the direction of the Director of Bilingual Education & Community Relations, the Home School
Community Liaison will support the implementation of parent/student needs. They will also participate in school-wide professional development.
Home School Community Liaison are responsible for ensuring high-quality service. As a bilingual school in an urban setting, they will demonstrate and model a passion for diversity, education and leadership.
Essential Functions:
Serves as a liaison between the parents, school and community.
Responsible for the care of the Parent Center and parent resources.
Supports the attendance initiative: input early/late attendance daily, run attendance reports and send attendance letters home to parents.
Works collaboratively with the school social workers in issues of truancy and chronic absenteeism.
Performs home visits that addresses truancy, chronic absenteeism and promoting school initiates.
Helps to coordinate parent meetings between parents and the school as needed.
Provides support to office staff with incoming calls from parents as needed.
Maintains communication with parents through multiple platforms of school wide events.
Helps parents navigate the parent portal when needed.
Helps administration with events and activities tailored to parents.
Coordinates recruitment initiatives all year round.
Serves as the contact person between daycares, preschool programs and other agencies in an effort to recruit families throughout the year.
Supports creating and implementing fundraising events.
Supports the student uniform initiative: complete uniform sales and call parents for student uniform infractions.
Supports the implementation of a K-12 PTO.
Plans parent workshops, meetings, and conferences.
Supports the Director of Bilingual Education in community/school engagement initiatives.
Assists with arrival and dismissal.
Liaison for technology from parent to IT.
Supports office staff with clerical and other various duties as needed.
Communicate with Assistant Principal and Counselor/Social Worker to any concerns regarding a student and/or family.
Works as a team member with office personnel and other staff members.
Attends staff development workshops, meetings, and seminars.
Able to articulate the school mission, vision and school programming.
Any other duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.

Skills and Abilities:
Experience with Children
Excellent knowledge of MS Office
Proficiency in English and Spanish is required
Exemplary planning and time management skills
Ability to multitask and prioritize daily workload
High level verbal and written communications skills
Education / Experience:
Bachelor Degree preferred or
Associate Degree with equivalent experience (two years of working in a school)
Bilingual (Spanish) a plus
Physical Demands:
This position does require occasional standing, squatting, frequent sitting and lifting of up to approximate 10lbs.
